NATIONAL CADET CORPS

The National Cadet Corps (N.C.C.) is an organization sponsored with a view to inculcate a spirit of service and sacrifice in the minds of the young men our country. The Government provides free military training to these selected young men who satisfy certain conditions regarding physical build, strength and stamina. The aims of the N.C.C. training in the College are:

  • To develop character, comradeship, the ideal of service and the capacity for leadership in young men.
  • To provide service training to young men so as to stimulate interest in the defence of the country.
  • To build up a reserve of potential officers so as to enable the armed forces to expand rapidly in a national emergency.

The perfect drilling and training imparted to the trainees make them acquire a fine personality and sound health.

Eligible cadets will be trained to appear for 'B' and 'C' certificate examinations.

Smart and capable cadets are entitled to selection for Adventure Courses, All India Advance Leadership Camps, Summer Training Camps of the States, Training in the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and be included in the Republic Day Parade contingent, New Delhi.
The units emphasize on developing qualities of character, courage, comradeship , discipline, of adventure, sportsmanship and the ideal of selfless service among the students so that they become useful and responsible citizens. It trains and provides an avenue for young aspirants to join the armed forces. In every academic year, the training programme of both the NCC units includes 80 hours (120 periods) of parades.

Of these periods, ten are allocated for social service. Besides regular parades, the NCC units conduct Annual Training Camps in six phases, with 12 days duration for each phase at various places in Tamilnadu. The final Camp is held in New Delhi as a preparation for the prestigious Royal Republic Day parade. Every year about 7 or 8 cadets are selected and sent for this parade from these units. The cadets are also the given training to pass B and C certificates.
Our college NCC company comes under 7 Tamilnadu Battalion of Madurai group of Tamilnadu Directorate.. We have both boys and girls in our NCC with a total strength of 100 cadets.

 40 parades are usually conducted every year. The training includes drill, map reading, first aid methods, field training, weapon training, civil defence and other social services activities. The military training is given by army officers, NGO, JCO and other higher officers.

In the autonomous scheme of our college, NCC is offered under   Part V with a prescribed syllabus for I & II year students. The examination is usually conducted at the end of the II and IV semesters. The Grade will be awarded to students according to their performance.

The highly motivated and dedicated cadets have brought many laurels to our college through their activities. Our cadets collect more than 3000 rupees every year on the eve of Army Flag day (7th December) .Periodically, some of the Cadets are selected to undergo the adventurous and rigorous military training in attachment with regular Army training Centers, rock climbing, mountaineering camps, trekking camps, army attachment camps, national integration camps etc., The Cadets regularly take part in the Inter-Collegiate NCC competitions. Many of these aim to make it to be officers and soldiers in the Army. Some have indeed succeeded in this attempt. Many Cadets have joined the police force.
